KLAS-8 TV (LAS VEGAS)
(transcription from their
11:00 PM show on January 15, 2002)
GARY
WADDELL: "A big part of that case involved Ted Binion's buried
silver fortune. Now a private company has bought the infamous
Binion silver for $3,000,000 and is selling it over the internet.
News One's Anne Yeager explains how you could own a piece of it."
ANNE YEAGER: "Rick Tabish and Sandy Murphy supposedly killed for
it, Tabish was caught stealing it, and now you can own a piece of it.
"Ted Binion's famous silver fortune is up for sale on the internet
on binioncollection.com.
"A private company bought the fortune for $3,000,000 and is selling
it to people like Lee Spence...he's already bought 1300 coins."
LEE SPENCE: "They are works of art."
YEAGER: "There's a lot of history to this silver. It meant so
much to Binion, he kept it in a walk-in freezer here at Binion's
Horseshoe."
DAVID ROGER: "Ted Binion buried all of his valuables...whether it's
in the basement of the Horseshoe or whether it was out in the desert in
Pahrump. And many times, he forgot where he buried
them."
YEAGER: "David Roger successfully prosecuted Sandy Murphy and Rick
Tabish for killing Binion.
"Roger says it isn't necessary to hold onto it...because they took
measures to preserve it."
ROGER: "We videotaped it, we weighed it, we did it...just in case,
God forbid, there would be another trial."
YEAGER: "Lee Spence is happy he has his hands on the coins.
But with the history and the Binion name on it, he doesn't think they'll
be around for long."
SPENCE: "You don't see those coins come available anymore.
It's part of Las Vegas history."
WADDELL: "The $3,000,000 purchase price for the silver will go into
a trust fund for Ted Binion's daughter Bonnie."
