Evidence From Binion Murder Trial To Be Sold

(Jan. 16) -- You have a chance to own a piece of the evidence in the most notorious murder cases in Las Vegas history: Individual pieces of the silver collection once owned by casino executive Ted Binion are for sale.

Goldline International, a California company, is offering thousands of coins from the collection starting at $40. The private company bought the fortune for $3 million and is selling it to people like Lee Spence. He's already bought 1,300 coins.

"They are works of art," Spence said.

There's a lot of history to this silver. It meant so much to Binion that he kept it in a walk-in freezer at Binion's Horseshoe.

"Binion buried all of his valuables, whether it's in the basement of the horseshoe or whether it was out in the desert in Pahrump. And many times he forgot where he buried them," said David Roger, who successfully prosecuted Sandy Murphy and Rick Tabish for killing Binion. Murphy was Binion's girlfriend, and Tabish was her lover.

Roger says it isn't necessary to hold onto the coins because the state took measures to preserve it if it should be needed in the future as evidence.

"We videotaped it; we weighed it; we did it just in case, God forbid, there would be another trial," Roger said.

The $3 million paid for the silver will go into a trust fund for Ted Binion's daughter Bonnie.
