(Santa Monica, CA) Peace silver dollars from Ted Binion's fabled
collection are being graded and released to the public.
In November 2001, the Binion silver hoard including over 100,000
high quality U.S. Morgan and Peace silver dollars was sold for over three
million dollars. Goldline
International, Inc. (Goldline.com) of Santa Monica, CA was appointed
exclusive worldwide marketing agent by the purchaser with some coins to be
sold in auction.
All Binion coins were authenticated and certified by the Numismatic
Guaranty Corporation (NGC). NGC
sealed each silver dollar into a tamperproof plastic holder featuring a
special pedigree label that for the first time is in a color (green) and
depicts three cowboys from the Old West.
The label also shows the coin's date, mint of issue, and grade.
Less than 1/10th of 1 percent of all coins graded by NGC
have a pedigree. Mark
Salzberg, President of NGC, classified Binion’s hoard as “the greatest
collection of silver dollars that NGC has ever authenticated."
He added, "These coins are dripping with amazing originality
and historical importance.” Peace
silver dollars were issued
to commemorate the Great War and were minted from 1921 until 1935.
These coins were designed by medallist Anthony DeFrancisci and embody the spirit of Lady Liberty.
Only two other silver dollars were minted after the Peace dollar by
the United States Mint; neither are composed of 90% silver.
The Peace dollar was the last of the real silver dollars used as
currency in the United States.
The price range per coin starts under $50 and runs over $1,000.
